Oregano is an aromatic, herbaceous, perennial with erect, hairy, square stems, and spreading roots.\u00a0 Under even moderate conditions, when given the chance, Oregano will spread, doing it’s best to take over your garden.<\/p>
The whole plant grows approximately two feet tall.\u00a0 It has dark green, opposite, oval leaves.\u00a0 Which can be either toothed or untoothed .\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
Oregano is often mistaken for its close relative Sweet Marjoram.\u00a0\u00a0Oregano, however, has a sharper, spicier taste.\u00a0 It is larger, and is a richer color of green.\u00a0 Marjoram\u00a0 is smaller and lighter gray green in color.\u00a0 By all accounts, the ancient Romans used the milder Marjoram for cooking and saved Oregano for medicinal use.\u00a0 Today we use both in the kitchen.\u00a0 Medicinally, Marjoram is milder, with it’s uses similar if not more sedating than it’s stronger cousin.<\/p>
Oregano has 1 to 1 \u00bc inch terminal flower clusters or spikelets that range in color from rosy \u2013 purple to white.\u00a0 It usually blooms in late spring to early summer, depending on where you live.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
